Two men arrested for Jan 6 attack on Capitol police officer
Posted by Josh Taylor / March 15, 2021Two men have been arrested for spraying a Capitol police officer with bear spray, potentially causing his death, though it has not yet been proven that the bear spray led to the death.
Additionally, an FBI investigation has uncovered communication between a Proud Boys member and an associate in the Trump White House in the days before the January 6. This is in addition to the contact between Roger Stone and a Proud Boys leader.
The FBI has called the January 6 riots at the Capitol domestic terrorism. Nevertheless, the agency stopped short of blaming a single group or ideology for the attack, since there were several different of each involved.
The union backing the Capitol Police Department has revealed that many retirement-age officers are ready to put in their papers, while younger officers are looking to change departments or even careers. These police officers cite failures of leadership that put them in danger on January 6, and they have reason to be concerned that future failures of leadership, especially during dangerous moments, might endanger them again.
Members of a far-right militia group called the Oath Keepers have been arrested for their role in the Capitol riots. The group prepared before the riots, including training in military-style tactics.
Last week, five people linked with the jingoistic Proud Boys group were arrested on conspiracy charges for the the Capitol riots. Two Virginia police officers have been suspended after being charged with participating in the January 6 Capitol riots. Sergeant Thomas Robertson and Officer Jacob Fracker, officers with Rocky Mount Police Department in Virginia were arrested after photographs appeared of them in the Capitol.
Among the other ding-dongs arrested:a 22-year-old Pennsylvania woman, allegedly one of the Capitol rioters, planned to steal a laptop from Nancy Pelosi’s office and then sell it to Russian Intelligence.
The Confederate Flag man photographed at the Capitol has been arrested, as well as the man who threw a fire extinguisher at police.
Two Capitol police have been suspended and another arrested for their conduct during the recent riots, and another 10-15 are under investigation. One of the suspended officers went viral for taking selfies with rioters.
